Simplified Summer Wardrobe
Trends aren’t really my jam. Of course we all go through those phases in our younger years of jumping on the train of each and every one. Looking back I’m so grateful I spent my youth in a school uniform; it left less opportunity for experimenting with the “trend du jour” and the classic blazer, criss cross tie and loafers of my high school years probably helped create an appreciation for the classics. Well...that and my mother. However, I believe we all want to look fresh....classically current if you will. And, I’m sure you do too. Therefore, choosing which trends to embrace must be done with restraint when it comes to still giving the appearance of fresh and current. So today, I’m sharing with you the pieces you can add to your summer wardrobe right now to freshen up the items you already have. However, the beauty of this list is it could also serve as a summer capsule wardrobe. It’s somewhere between 10-12 pieces depending how you shop.
First, the shirt dress. White or blue is always a classic and they happen to be on trend this season, although a staple in my book. Perfect for daytime running around to stay cool and polished looking throughout the day.
Palazzo pants. Gotta have them. Period. The end. You may say, “but I’m too short”. Not true...shop around, anyone can wear the right cut. Less of a classic and more of a trend so purchase at a price point you are comfortable with. Have fun when choosing the color. This is a seasonal item...not a wardrobe essential.
Flirty, floral dress. It’s all about fresh florals this season so you must own at least one thing floral. Why not a fun dress to take you from errands, to date night, to church, to brunch and a wedding or two.
All denim outfit. This could be a jumpsuit, a matched set of some sort or work with a denim skirt you own and find the perfect denim top to go with it. No cut offs please.
Cropped flare pants. White or off white is best in my opinion. They are the most versatile. So comfortable and perfect for running around. Dress them up or down. Think of these as your summer jeans.
Something lavender. It’s the Pantone color of the year. Choose anything you like, but a lavender top sure would look cute with those palazzo pants you just bought or those crop flares.
Something red. Owning something red this season is just as important as owning something lavender. Could be shoes, bag...anything. But buy something red.
Something rainbow. The trend is still going strong and it’s just so much fun. It could be as simple as a clutch with all the colors that you throw on with your cropped flares and a tee.
Talking about those tees....ladies, please freshen up your white tees. A basic white tee, a short sleeve cotton button down...pick your poison. Personally, a short sleeve button up with some short of detail is always great and my preference. But feminine details are super trendy right now so this piece is two for one in my book ~ essential and on trend.
Slides. You need them. They are to be worn in lieu of flip flops. Could be a neutral or something fun. But slides are are everywhere right now.
Last, a whimsical bag. Many are in the shapes of fruit, bird cages, ice cream, lobsters (something red and whimsical). Sooo much fun. But it doesn’t have to be in this form, it could be a straw clutch with flamingos...just fun and light hearted. This bag would look great with just a white shirt and your crop flares, that all denim set, a blue or white shirt dress and those new slides. You will carry It more than you think - it’s sure to be your go-to this summer.
These are just my opinions as my shopping is done. If yours is not, I have linked some items below to help you get started.
