Okay guys, today I'm talking bedding basics. Just like you need a wardrobe of elevated essentials, so does your bed. Like pretty much everything else in my life, I like to keep it simple and of course WHITE! My husband and I prefer the feeling of a 5 Start Hotel, like the crisp, clean white linens at a Four Seasons. He travels ALOT and neither of us like clutter so a clean hotel look works for us. Elevated simplicity people...learn it...live it! Life is just easier that way.

Back to bedding. There are a few things I never ever compromise on and neither should you. First, machine washable is a must. PERIOD. There is nothing like your own laundry detergent and a little Downy. It's heaven. I don't want to curl up every night in bedding that has to be dry cleaned. It's just not cozy. Next, throw everything you think you know about thread count out the window. There are so many amazing fabrics these days. My advice, if its soft and cozy to you {and machine washable}, then get it. Purchase at least two sets of sheets to make your life easier. Keep one in your linen cabinet and one on the bed. Also purchase an extra set of pillow cases {example: sheet set plus extra pair of cases}.This eliminates a lot of needless waiting around for your sheets to wash and dry on "clean sheet day" {which is at least twice a week at my house}. Keep your pillow situation simple. I personally don't want to spend 20 minutes each night removing pillows and 20 minutes again putting them back on. We all have better things to do with our time and I just don't get it. My husband and I each have 2 pillows for sleeping/reading in bed plus our oversized Euros. These are the greatest thing ever as it eliminates the need for 3 standard euros on the bed, thereby a much cleaner look. Shop around, they are easy to find these days. Add one long decorative pillow and that's it...call it a day.

To sum things up, you need 2 sets of sheets plus extra cases for each set, a lightweight cotton blanket, coverlet or duvet {or both}, bedskirt {dependent on the bed}, 2 sleeping pillows each, 3 Euros or 2 oversized Euros and one decorative pillow. Buy all white with exception of a little hotel stripe or border and make sure it is machine washable. You don't have to spend a ton of money either. You can achieve a really great look along with comfort for a song these days.

Style tip: Keep your bedside tables simple. A pair of lamps, fresh flowers and a box for the remote of reading glasses is all you really need.

Follow these tips and your room will look like the Four Seasons {or better} in no time! Also, the oversized Euros are best priced at Restoration Hardware and are called "king loungers". Peacock Ally also makes a version called the "Grand Euro". You will pay a bit more and the dimensions are slightly different.

XO,

Melanie
